Longhorn
2010, 16mm to video loop, silent

synopsis:
Projected between oil paintings of livestock in a 2010 show titled The Secret Life Of Animals at the Tacoma Art Museum, this brief majesty is offered as a view into the free moments of beings wholly controlled by human development. The wide Montana landscape, empty but for its rising snowy landscape stippled with frozen grass and legendary vast blue sky, is a handsome frame for a fine example of a lone Texas Longhorn steer. As he turns a judicious eye to the camera, we are invited to ruminate on his existence.
